But the pictures I take are very different then what photographers take. I capture moments and post them for my friends to see; photographers take time, plan their works of art and display them in hopes of the world seeing. Their photography is meant for a greater cause, to speak to the viewer, to touch them in some way. This is what is explained in Camera Lucida, Reflections on Photography. It states how there are two types of ways your attention is captured when looking at a photo. Studuim and punctum. Studuim relies more on what you already know. It takes your personal taste and draws you in. Punctum is more abstract. It is by accident you are drawn to this photo, but once you are engaged you can not escape it. It grabs your attention by stabbing you, shocking you, you are just drawn into it. These concepts are a little hard to explain so I will show you through example; I as a 22 year old college girl who loves pigs instantly fell in love with this picture because it used staduim and got my attention by showing me something I know and love.
